Innovative Legal Staffing Firm Honored as One of “50 Companies to Watch in Michigan”MAY, 2005 – Contract Counsel (Royal Oak, Michigan), a legal staffing specialist, has been recognized as one of the “50 Companies to Watch in Michigan,” by a new awards program sponsored by the Edward Lowe Foundation. Contract Counsel received the honor during the first annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business event, April 28th in East Lansing. The awards program selects growing, privately-held “second-stage” companies (with gross annual sales between $750,000 and $50 million) that demonstrate entrepreneurial leadership and the ability to sustain a distinct competitive advantage. Contract Counsel focuses on creating and implementing legal staffing strategies that include contract lawyers, legal assistants and legal support personnel who perform work for a corporation or a law firm for as little as one day, or for as long as needed. Additionally, the company serves as an executive search and recruiting firm for direct hires, and can also place candidates on a “contract-to-hire” basis. A key strength is the companies’ process for tracking the unique career paths and employment preferences of legal professionals. This produces a dynamic database of over 15,000 pre-screened candidates for contract work, including sole practitioners, legal professionals who have relocated or are re-entering the workforce, entry-level lawyers, and others. “Cost-savings is the driving factor for the corporations and law firms who are our clients, says David Galbenski, Contract Counsel President and CEO. “On large-scale litigation cases, for example, legal professionals working through Contract Counsel perform thousands of hours of document processing during the discovery phase of litigation. We routinely reduce the cost of these kinds of projects by hundreds of thousands of dollars; sometimes savings are over $1 million.” The Edward Lowe Foundation is a not-for-profit operating foundation based in Michigan. Its mission is to “champion the entrepreneurial spirit” by helping entrepreneurs learn from each other. “Growing, second-stage enterprises generate the bulk of new, sustainable jobs and are a powerful economic force,” says Edward Lowe Foundation Executive Director Mark Lange.
