Lumen Legal is partnered with a Michigan based medical cannabis company to identify and hire a Chief Legal Officer. This opportunity will be working at our client’s office located in Washtenaw County, Michigan.
The hired Chief Legal Officer will deliver great results by:
Developing, implementing and leading corporate legal strategies.
Overseeing the delivery of legal services and resources to meet corporate goals, priorities, and strategies.
Participating in high-level planning and strategizing meetings, providing legal input as needed.
Tracking, adjusting, and implementing legal amendments involving cannabis at the state and federal levels.
Developing and leading internal auditing and corporate compliance program initiatives.
Helping a new and growing company get set for its initial public offering.
Working to get licenses for expansion into new markets and states.
Building out a legal team for a growing company.
Reviewing reports presented by legal managers, and make decisions regarding various legal aspects, ranging from lawsuits to corporate contracts, and provide counsel to company executives, directors and managers regarding policies and strategies for the company.
Ensuring innovations developed within the organization are patented and related rights are protected.

Highly qualified applicants will possess the following education, skills, and experience:
At least ten years of experience handling legal matters.
Experience building a legal team for a public company.
Experience with a consumer packaged goods company.
Strong knowledge of corporate law.
Experience in the cannabis industry.
Juris Doctorate with a license to practice in the state of Michigan. Licensure in other states is preferred.
Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
Must be willing to complete a Background Check.
Comfortable with corporate travel expectations of 20%-30%.
Must possess strong initiative, management, and leadership skills, with strong business acumen.
